A: Im able to bond w/ my kids ages (20 f., 16 .) cardio excercies, self satisfaction, meeting women from all kinds of backgrounds and making new friends

Q: What made you decide to join ACRG?

A: Meeting women from all kinds of backgrounds and making new friends.

Q. Have you had any major injuries? What happened?

A: During a scrimmage against the Divas, I took a fall backwards and landed straight on my skate wheels. My adreniline was pumping so I didn't feel it until 3 days later.I felt it alright, I had a broken tailbone.

Q. What would be your perfect bout?

A: What I think was MY best bout was playing against the "Prims", who were last years champions. I knew my limits, and had a better sense of the game. We all worked like a Roller Derby Team. I took the Jammer out 8 times during the whole game. What an awsome feeling . The main key to this win was hard TEAM WORK, and I was part of the best game played.

Q. Finish the sentence: "So many people don't know that I ______"
A: always wanted to play Rollerderby! And now I am actually doing it at 40 yrs. young. So it's NEVER TO LATE, don't procrastonate!!

Q. What do you get most out of skating?
A: A chance to sweat all the beer out of my system during practice. Ha ha! Really, skating is my time to focus on me and put my family and career aside. It's a chance for me to physically push myself as hard as I can. Practice is tough, but I get so much satisfaction out of my sore muscles and bruises.

Q. What is the best thing you have gotten from joining ACRG?
A: Actually what I value most from skating with ACRG are the friends that I've made. This league is made up of awesome women who support and encourage each other, and knock each other to the ground on the track. It's straight-up tough love!

Q. Have you had any major injuries? What happened?
A: Luckily I haven't had any major injuries, just the usual derby boo-boos like bruises and scrapes. I think the worst was falling and hitting my face on asphalt. After my road rash stopped bleeding I had to clean all the dirt out by digging in the cuts with an alcohol wipe . My lip swelled up like I was blowing kisses but I'm so glad I didn't chip a tooth!

Q. What would your perfect bout be?
A: My perfect bout would have all the fans shouting "REAP HAVOC! REAP HAVOC!" I'd have ten or so jammer take outs and the Prim Reapers would be winning by 100 points. Oh so sweet!

Q. Finish the sentence: "So many people don't know that I _______"
A: LOVE watching reruns of The Pink Panther, The Munsters and Three's Company. I'm saving up to buy the DVD collections.

Name: Dita Gone Rotten
Number: 0925
Team: Missyfits
Position: Blocker, Pivot

Q. What do you get most out of skating?
Derby is something that constantly challenges me- and I never get bored with it. There are always new goals to reach for. It's organized chaos which I live for.

Q. What made you decide to join ACRG’s?
I heard about it through word of mouth, and took a trip down to the Rollercade to get some more information. It turned out one of the trainers was a guy I went to high school with. He encouraged me and made me feel welcome. Not to mention that the girls looked so different and unique, like you knew they'd be good company!

Q. What would be your advice to the new recruits?
Remember why you want to play this sport. Have fun! When you stop having fun, you'll be skating for the wrong reasons. Keep positive thoughts, and get to know as many ACRGers as you can, there are some amazing ladies here for you.

Q. What would be your perfect bout?
I can't imagine ever playing a "perfect" bout, because I'll always feel like I could have done more or did something in a different way. That's the constant challenge. A GREAT bout would be if I felt like I never gave up, pushed my self beyond my comfort zone, and protected my ghouls!

Q. Finish the sentence……
So many people don’t know that I…….have a tattoo of a Haunted House covering my entire back. I'm slightly obsessed with Halloween. (I know many girls see I have ink back there, but it's hard to see what it is if I don't strip. PS- The Missyfits made me do that one night so they could see all of it. =)

Name: White Trashlee
Number: 72
Team: Dragon Divas
Position: Blocker

Q. What do you get most out of skating?

Badass legs and a rock hard ass! Oh, yeah, great friendships too....

Q. What made you decide to join ACRG’s?
I saw the exhibition bout back in Nov. 2005 and had to do it...the next week I was skating with them!

Q. What would be your advice to the new recruits?
Skate, skate, skate...put your heart in it and you will get sooo much back!

Q. What would be your perfect bout?
Making every blocker shy away from me and making the jammer fly into the crowd when I hit her...heee heee.

Q. Finish the sentence……
So many people don’t know that I……am crafty...not tricky, but I make jewelry, revamp clothing, make cool decoupage stuff.

Q: How long have you been skating for ACRG?
A: In June it will be 2 years. Wow.

Q: What have you gotten most out of joining roller derby?
A: This incredible booty! ;o) Actually, I think the most valuable thing that I have gained from ACRG is the friendship; the other girls have become like family, and it's great. And derby is a great outlet for physical and mental stress.

Q: What would be your advice to wanna-be derby girls?
A: Practice, practice, practice. Please realize that most of the vets started at the same level as you. We didn't just strap on skates and become badasses overnight. It took months (even years) of practice. Be patient with yourself and your skills. And have fun! It's a game, after all.

Q: What is your favorite part of a bout?
A: That moment right before the first jam whistle blows, when the anticipation is so much that you could just go crazy. And the end, when we can all be friends again.

Q: Finish this sentence: "So many people don't know that I _______"
A: cry at happy endings.

The Hammer lives in San Marcos and makes the trip all the way down to San Antonio for practices, games and other league events - - now that's dedication! She also serves the league as Chair of the League Relations committee, making sure that the competitive attitudes stay on the track and that the players always remember that "we're all in this together".

Name: Matza Brawl
Number: 5766
Team: Prim Reapers
Position: Pivot, Jammer, Blocker

Q: How long have you been skating?
A: About a year and a half, or long enough to forget what it was like when I couldn't skate.

Q: What have you gotten most out of joining roller derby?
A: Fantastic thighs and buttocks. Haha, but more seriously, forming relationships with strong, independent women who, under other circumstances wouldn't have come together, but rather work together. league.

Q: What would be your advice to wanna-be derby girls?
A: I'd tell girls considering derby a couple of things:
-Work as hard as you would training for any other sport.
-Don't kvetch. It gets easier....eventually. Plus, nobody wants to hear it.
-Watch your nose.

Q: What is your favorite part of a bout?
A: In the heat of the moment, I sometimes forget that we play for an audience. Yet, they are always my favorite: yelling, carrying signs, and having a good time. Falling into the pumped up crowd reminds me that other people appreciate the sport as much as we do. It's all about the love for derby!

Q: Finish this sentence: "So many people don't know that I ______"
A: can't resist coffee and a good book.

In addition to skating for her team, Matza Brawl is on the league's sponsorship committee and delivers comp tickets for the games to each of our beloved sponsors - so they're always happy to see her walk through the door! MIRANDA FIGHTS tell all...

Position: Blocker

Q: What do you get most out of playing roller derby?

A: Energy... just pure f*ing energy. My days are less stressful. My body is more relaxed (when I'm not injured) and my skin is glowing cuz all the sweat clears out my pores. :P hee hee I feel like a Spartan ready to take on any obstacle when I'm finishing up a 2 hour skate.

Q: What made you decide to join ACRG?

A: MegaHurtz kept pursuading me. Just kidding. Seriously, I wanted to be a part of a movement in this town that would be recognized in a positive way. I wanted to join in with other women that had similar interests. The night life isn't everything and sooo many people in this town really do follow that niche. This is one way that this community can come together and rock out with their "explicit word" out. I wanted to own that for myself.

Q: What would be your advice to new recruits?

A: Your dedication will show. If you really want it badly, then you will literally hurt badly, but you WILL get there. The more time you spend in your skates, the more trained you will be. Don't ever give up on yourself. Don't ever give in to your weakness. You can and will push through all of that to reach the success you've been wanting from the start. It takes a lot of heart, dedication, and perseverance (along with bruises) to become the rollergirl you look up to. I have my idols in this league and other leagues and I constantly feel the urge to better myself to get there. Once I'm there, I go for more. Enjoy skating, enjoy roller derby, and enjoy your new family. Everyone in this league is rooting for you... and last but not least, carry Tiger Balm in your purse. And watch out for Osa. She will catch you when you aren't looking.

Q: What would be your perfect bout?
A: Any bout is a perfect bout. I honestly haven't had the chance to skate with my new team due to injury and last season, as a Violation, I didn't have the privelege of being on the rink once I completely healed from the broken elbow. It took a long time before I could, but I know this season for me will be an excellent season full of "perfect bout" scenerios. Our opening game was an excellent one, but because of this cracked rib I couldn't participate. How many injuries will I get?? Hopefully, no more. I'm tired of missing out on all the action.

Q: Finish this sentence: "Most people don't know that I _____."

A: love to paint and sketch. I mainly sketch figures (people and animals). I use to do photography to capture people in candid moments and develop the film only to sketch out the picture. I don't do that anymore but I still paint once in awhile. I give sooo many paintings and sketches away as gifts to friends and family. I was told to sell them but, for what? All my art had a lot of emotion and I didn't want to profit from a stranger with money. I got satisfaction from seeing happiness in my family and friends upon receiving the gift. I still do.

Miranda Fights is an experienced skater who transferred to the Missyfits team this season, after her initial season with the former Violations team. Miranda Fights has incurred two major injuries during her derby "career", which have cut into her playing time, but hopes to make up for lost time on the track with her new teammates this season!

Name: Tonya Hurting
Number: 4-0
Team: Prim Reapers
Position: Co-Captain, Jammer, Pivot

Q: What do you get most out of playing roller derby?
A: It's my outlet away from home to let me do something for me that I enjoy doing. I am very competitive and love a good challenge. The accomplishment of being one of the top jammers and pivots in the league is very rewarding. But most of all is the friendships I have made through derby. After joining derby, you soon learn that you have adopted a second family.

Q: What made you decide to join ACRG?

A: I had heard about the ACRG from my brother and was encouraged to start skating again after being off of my skates since I was a teenager. I went to see the exhibition bout [in November 2005] and right away I knew it was something I wanted to do. My life has changed tremendously since joining and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Q: What would be your advice to new recruits?
A: Hang in there and don't ever be discouraged or intimidated by the vets in the league. I have seen girls come into the league barely knowing how to skate and some are now among the best skaters in the league. BUT, the best advice I can give them would be the more time you put into it, the more you are going to get out of it, so... SKATE, SKATE, SKATE!!
!Q: What do you do in your down time?
A: My life revolves around skating and derby somehow. When I'm not practicing with my team I am either at the rink skating with my family or
traveling to another city to watch other derby leagues.
Q: Finish this sentence: "Most people don't know that I _____."

A: am probably the biggest tom-boy they have ever met.

Tonya Hurting is a mother of three who, along with her husband, are collectively known around the rink as "the fast family". Tonya also skates for ACRG's all- star travel team, Las Tejanas, who are taking on Houston Roller Derby's all-star team, H.aR.D. Knocks on Sunday, June 17, 2007 (Father's Day) in Houston.

Beware of OSA PELIGROSA's ferocious hits and
wear your hard hat when WRECKIN BELLE's on the track!

Name: Osa Peligrosa
Number: 808
Team: The Missyfits
Position: Blocker 3
Visit Osa Peligrosa's myspace profile

Q: What's your favorite part about playing Blocker?

A: I like to play Blocker 3 because it is such a blast rough-housing with the big girls in the back of the pack. Clobbering the jammer repeatedly is pretty entertaining too.

Q: How long have you been skating?
I have been skating since I was a kid. My mom was really cool and let my brother and me skate in the house. My brother and I used to fight on our skates. We would shove eachother until someone ate it. The last one standing was the winner. I always won.

Q: What do you get most out of derby?
A: I love playing derby because I get to be aggressive, competitive, and violent without being labeled a "crazy bi***." This was my title before I had derby as an outlet. I'm a much more pleasant person now...off the track, that is.

Q: What do you do outside of derby?
A: I make my living corrupting the youth of America. I teach your kids to question authority, buck the system, and express themselves without censorship. I am an educator.

Q: Finish this sentence: "Most people don’t know that I _____."
A: Cannot survive without an afternoon nap, a daily dose of cheese, and tacky-a** ropa usada.

Osa Peligrosa is a founding member of ACRG and is the 2007 Co-Captain for the Missyfits. She also skates for ACRG's all-star travel team, Las Tejanas, who are taking on the Texas Rollergirls' three-time Champion team the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers on April 1, 2007 in Austin.

Name: Wreckin Belle

Q: What is your favorite position (and please keep it clean)

A: Blocker 2 and on top of a pile up.

Q: How long have you been skating?
A: Almost 2 years.

Q: What do you get most out of derby?

A: Stress relief, camaraderie, just playing “the game”, but most of all - my friendships.

Q: What do you do outside of derby?
A: I'm a property manager - I take care of people's homes and lives.

Q: Finish this sentence: "Most people don’t know that I ______"
A: Sleep with the teddy bear my dad bought me the day I was born.

Wreckin Belle currently serves the ACRG as Vice President of the League's Advisory Board and also keeps all our skaters' insurance coverage up-to-date. She also helps manage ACRG's all-star travel team, Las Tejanas, along with the Dragon Divas' bench mistress, Ubetta Doant.
